Workshop for SixERS Joint Student Exchange Programs Held at Chiang Mai University, Thailand

A workshop for SixERS joint student exchange programs was held for faculty members from SixERS member universities for four days from March 5 (Sun.) to 8 (Wed.), 2017, on the sidelines of the joint short-term study abroad program held by SixERS at Chiang Mai University, Thailand, from March 5 (Sun.) to 19 (Sun.).
This workshop, carried out as a part of the cooperation activities with the ASEAN University Network (AUN), featured the following:
1) Introduction to short-term study abroad programs offered by Chiang Mai University;
2) Report on Japanese-language education in local private junior and senior high schools and Japanese students’ activities as a teaching assistant there;
3) Visit to a public speaking workshop held in the short-term study abroad program;
4) Visit to Chiang Mai University to observe a class offered by the Division of Japanese, the Faculty of Humanities; and
5) Study tour of a Japan-Thailand joint venture (production and sale of wasabi paste) and its facilities.
Ten participants from SixERS member universities (three from Chiba University, one from Niigata University, two from Kanazawa University, two from Okayama University, and two from Nagasaki University) had lively exchanges of views and opinions on how to create better student exchange programs, finding the workshop very meaningful and valuable.
This workshop made the front page of the Chiang Mai University newspaper as a high-profile event.
