Director’s Message
The Six National Universities (Chiba University, Niigata University, Kanazawa University, Okayama University, Nagasaki University and Kumamoto University) share many characteristics. First, they are former national medical colleges or high schools that have significantly contributed to Japan and their regions. The Six National Universities have approximately 70,000 students in total; each university is known as one of the top comprehensive universities in Japan. In addition, the Six National Universities have long histories and traditions from which have grown their excellent records of education and research. Every year close to 18,000 students graduate with superb records to follow national or international careers. Their world class research results have been the seeds for contributions to Japanese education, academic research, and Japanese and international society. It is the mission of the Six National Universities to continue fulfilling this role in Japan.
In order to nurture the further development of highly trained graduates for leadership in a globalizing world, the Six National Universities have newly established a mechanism for cooperation : “SixERS.”
The mechanism functions based upon each university’s respective strengths and traditions in the development of joint programs. The aim is to meet the demands of a global society through the development of a truly international academic center.
