1st Inaugural Meeting for the Myanmar-Japan Platform for Human Resource Development Held in Tokyo

On March 11, 2016, the first inaugural meeting for the Myanmar-Japan Platform for Human Resource Development (MJPF) was held at the Keidanren Hall of the Nippon Keidanren (Japan Business Federation) Building in Tokyo.

Explanations were given about the establishment of the MJPF and its membership, which were followed by the appointment of facilitators. The facilitators chosen from the private sector are Sumitomo Corporation, Taiyo Life Insurance Company, Daiwa Securities Co., Ltd., JGC Corporation, Hitachi, Ltd., Mitsubishi Corporation, and the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. Those from academia are Osaka University, Okayama University, Kyushu University, Kyoto University, Josai University, Chiba University, Chuo University, Nagoya University, and Waseda University.

And then, Masaru Araki, Director of SUN/SixERS and Okayama University Executive Director and Vice President (Social Responsibility and International Affairs), and Taimei Watanabe, General Manager of the International Economic Cooperation Department, Mitsubishi Corporation, were chosen as Joint Representatives of the MJPF. Hiromu Suganou, Asia & Oceania team leader of the Business Development Department, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Atsufumi Yokoi, Okayama University’s Special Advisor to the President /Senior University Global Administrator (UGA) in charge of International and Strategy Affairs, were appointed as Joint Directors-General.

The MJPF, with the cooperation of relevant organizations in Myanmar and an organization of former Myanmarese students who had studied in Japan, seeks to create joint projects to ensure more effective implementation of individual measures by relevant organizations.
