Project for Enhancement of Engineering Higher Education in Myanmar

The SixERS ; Six National Universities International Education, Research System has deployed the “Project for Enhancement of Engineering Higher Education in Myanmar” under the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) since October, 2013.

The Republic of the Union of Myanmar has been shifted from military regime to democracy in 2011. However, due to the long military regime, most university education had not been carried out.
As a result, laboratory equipment deteriorated as experienced teaching staff retired, leaving research and education environment in Myanmar deteriorated rapidly.

On the project, professors from JSUs conduct seminars and simulate lectures locally in order to improve the educational ability and research capability of Myanmar engineering faculty members who bear to educate university students.
JSUs also invite Myanmar engineering faculty members to Japanese universities to allow them to experience the laboratory management, lectures, and actual experiments.
The project also has been supplying engineering equipment to local in order to conduct research exercises satisfactory.

Since the commencement of the project, we have conducted Myanmar staff training twice a year, and operational support of international conference as well as short stay training in Japan annually.
Through these exchange programs, the project aims to contribute to improving the quality of engineering education to train the engineering personnel who have a key role in the infrastructure development, industrial development of Myanmar country in the near future.

Furthermore, the project has been officially extended to March 2020 for the continuous support of Yangon Technological University and Mandalay Technological University.
